I first heard about Smash Putt while bartending in Pioneer Square. I found a flyer for their popup and, the next day, heard a coworker recount the chaos and fun of its closing night. I had just missed it.
Years later, I had the chance to help bring that energy back through graphic design. Working with the Smash Putt team, I created a grindhouse arcade style of graphics for all nine par holes and a bonus hole, along with an animated display facing the street, bar and VIP room graphics, and a beer menu for the Just the Tap inside the venue.
The project connected me with an incredible group of artists and collaborators, and played a part in giving the space a bold visual presence, inside and out.
The street-facing display featured Smashy, the mascot, was animated using Illustrator & Photoshop. Then I layered it with looping promotional footage in Premier. Lastly I added a persistent info panel along the bottom kept entry details and hours visible throughout.
Menu Development
The bar menu began with an initial concept (top), designed with a warm, vintage mood in mind to avoid overpowering the dimly lit environment with too much light. The final menu (bottom) leans into a more traditional putt putt vibe.
